Mike Sweeney was first elected to the office of Elk Grove Township Collector in April of 2005.

In September of 2005 Mike was appointed by the board of Trustees to the office of Township Clerk. Mike’s term as Clerk ends in the spring of 2009. As Clerk, Mike is the local election official for the Township and is charged with maintaining all Township records. While performing his duties as Clerk, Mike developed a system for storing township records electronically. This new system allows Elk Grove Township residents to view certain records online and receive records through e-mail. Mike knows that using technology in this way will make Elk Grove Township Government more transparent and will save taxpayers money by reducing printing costs. Mike believes that all levels of government should be easily accessed by citizens and costs should be reduced whenever possible.

Mike has served on the Board of the Waycinden Area Baseball League. Mike grew up playing in Waycinden and enjoys giving back to the League. During the summer of 2007 Mike managed a Waycinden Colt Team and states he had a lot of fun.  In 2008, the time requirements of his campaign limited his availability to Manage but not his love of the league, so in 2008 he sponsored a team.

Mike is a parishioner at St. Zachary Church. Mike is the Committeeman for the Republican Organization of Elk Grove Township and was the Chairman for the Northwest Suburban Republican Family Picnic from 2004-2006.  Mike helped resurrect the Repubican Family Picnic in 2008 and is looking forward to building this event for years to come.
